35th Gannett site to install NewsWay workflow

- The News-Star, Monroe, installs ProImage workflow solution
- Managing output to Trendsetter CTPs
- Fewer mistakes and therefore less plate waste

Princeton, NJ – 10 April, 2007: The 35th Gannett site to install ProImage NewsWay workflow software has gone live, New ProImage announced today.

The News-Star, Monroe, LA, has installed browser-based NewsWay to automate its CtP workflow and provide end-to-end integration, workflow management and production tracking.

Doug Nobles, The New-Star’s Production Director, commented: “NewsWay and the ProImage people have done everything we’ve asked of them. The cost-effective system is very flexible and has increased our production efficiency. Also, since softproofing uses RIPed data, we have had fewer mistakes and therefore less plate waste. NewsWay provides us with a great deal of real-time production information that previously was unavailable, and in addition has proved very easy to use, from anywhere with an Internet connection.

“Production tracking, softViewing, page and plate approvals, conferencing and annotation (providing easy-to-use communications between departments), automated event notification, deadline monitoring and priority scheduling all help to make throughput error-free and highly efficient," he said.
At The News-Star NewsWay accepts files from APT editorial and classified systems, as well as from external systems. NewsWay then creates an edition plan, automates page pairing and imposition, load balances two Harlequin RIPs and manages output to two Kodak Trendsetter CtP devices plus several hard copy proofers. During this process NewsWay burns appropriate text and furniture onto the plates. The software also provides correct file naming and page orientation before sending TIFF files to a Rockwell system for correct calculation of the ink values for each page.
A Mactive advertising system is shortly due to be installed, and when it is NewsWay will also accept its files, and additionally manage them within the simple ‘drop and drag’ workflow process.
