Or Akiva, Israel – October 9th, 2006: - ProImage (www.newsway.com) the world’s leading dedicated newspaper workflow system developer, at IfraExpo, Amsterdam announced the sale of another major NewsWay workflow management and transmission solution, this time to the Deccan Chronicle, India.
The 800,000 circulation Deccan Chronicle (www.deccan.com) has been using Newsway Lite, a single site system, since 2004. Based on its success the company decided to upgrade the system to control workflow and transmission to all 15 of its print sites around the country.
“The newspaper needed a solution that was robust, easy to configure and use,” says Hanan Drory, VP sales and marketing Asia, New ProImage. “NewsWay provides integration from page composition and page pairing through CtP to ink key pre-setting on the press control systems, and therefore allows the Deccan Chronicle to fully automate its remote printing sites. This reduces manpower needs at these sites, which in-turn provides financial benefits for the newspaper. The ability to customize the software for their own unique environment has also been a valuable benefit.”
In its editorial departments in Chennai and Hyderabad the Deccan Chronicle uses QuarkXpress for page composition and thermal Kodak Trendsetter News CtP machines. All major file formats may be used, including Postscript, PDF and TIFF.
The key components of the NewsWay solution include NewsWay RIPs, page pairing, color proofing, output drivers for imagesetters (film) as well as CtP devices, a Distiller plug-in, and generation of ink key values with an interface to the press control system.
Titles produced on the system by the Deccan Chronicle Group are the Deccan Chronicle (English daily), Andhra Bhoomi (Telugu daily), Andhra Bhoomi (Telugu weekly), Andhra Bhoomi (Telugu monthly)
