ProImage NewsWay manages newspaper group’s production across the South of France

Browser-based NewsWay provides foundation for group-wide CtP

Iintegrating editorial front-end through CtP to the press

London – September, 2006:  Newspaper production by Le Groupe de la Provence, in the fashionable south east of France, is being made more efficient by ProImage’s NewsWay workflow software.

NewsWay is used to link and manage production of the newspapers owned by this leading media company that lists amongst it businesses the book publisher Hachette, distribution and retail services, and audiovisual businesses that operate several popular television stations including Match TV and Canal.

The newspapers that form this ‘NewsWay village’ are Corse Matin, La Provence and Marseilleplus. NewsWay is the browser-based workflow software foundation on which the group is able to remotely manage its newspapers’ CtP production.

Automatic pagination starts with a plan, and the pagination plan for Corse Matin is created at Nice Matin before being sent to NewsWay; NewsWay assembles and imposes the pages and completed impositions are output on CtP devices at sites in both Marseille and a new print site at Bastia, on the island of Corsica, where they are printed.

At La Provence, where twelve daily broadsheet editions are produced as well as the tabloid Marseilleplus, the pagination plans are created by a Unisys Hermes editorial system, RIPed within NewsWay, imposed, and output on three DMX CtP devices.  NewsWay prioritises output and automatically load balances the CtP machines so that maximum throughput is achieved.

Later this year two new KBA presses with EAE control systems will be in production at La Provence, and NewsWay will provide integration with both the press control and Hermes systems.  This will allow NewsWay to manage production, calculate the number of plates required, their priority, and drive the three new Agfa Polaris CtP machines that are scheduled to replace the DMX machines.

ProImage’s partner in France, SP3i, provides sales, integration and training, and has been successful in installing NewsWay across France, as well as some of the country’s outposts such as the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean.
